Past roles as Instrument Scientist for three major conceptual-design studies for ground-based telescopes:
- WEAVE for the William Herschel Telescope (now in construction)
- MOONS for the Very Large Telescope (now in construction)
- EAGLE Phase A study for the European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT)
- UKATC co-I for E-ELT HARMONI
- PI of the VLT-FLAMES Tarantula Survey, the world’s largest collaboration investigating the physics and evolution of massive stars, involving more than 50 astronomers worldwide, with over 20 refereed papers published to date.
- 91 refereed papers (15 as first author, 8 as PhD supervisor of lead author); Hirsch index (#papers ≥ #cites) = 33; total citations > 4000
